The answer to moulding a sustainable future lies in solving larger issues affecting society. Our approach integrates agro-forestry, water harvesting and community well-being. Orient Paper is engaged in initiatives like enriching education, promoting better health and elevating the financial security of the community that we engage with.

Key Initiatives 

Village development committees We have established 1,090 village development committees to ensure community participation in decision-making processes.

Training and exposure: Over 280 exposure visits and 3,000 community training events have been conducted, empowering 90,000 smallholders with the knowledge needed to improve agricultural practices.

Irrigation development projects: On a larger scale, we’re enhancing irrigation through the construction of check dams and reservoirs to increase agricultural productivity, uplifting farmer livelihoods. More than 9,500 water harvesting structures have been implemented, ensuring sustainable water management for agriculture.

Inclusive agricultural practices: Our support encompasses all aspects of farming, including the promotion of organic farming techniques, market linkages, and the use of organic fertilizers and pesticides. These efforts are integral to our strategy to double the income of farmers in the next 3-4 years.

Organic farming: We have facilitated the certification of over 15,000 organic farms and established 14 Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs) for agri-value chain development.

Healthcare initiatives: Orient Paper organises Medical Camps, offering vital health services to rural communities, reflecting our dedication to holistic well-being.

Promoting mental well-being: Our partnership with the Heartfulness Foundation to promote the mental and spiritual well-being of farmers through meditation is aimed at enriching their lives beyond economic measures.

Expanding reach with partnerships: In collaboration with ASA, we plan to cover 100,000 acres of land under agroforestry plantations in Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh, touching 90,000 families and affecting 450,000 lives. With the Chhattisgarh government, we aim to cover 50,000 acres, offering financial subsidies to farmers.

Boosting local economy: Orient Paper will bear 50% of the cost of the joint agroforestry plantation initiatives with the government. These efforts aim not just to improve environmental conditions but also to significantly boost the local economy.

Empowering women and enabling sustainable finance: Orient Paper has actively engaged women in their initiatives, with over 70% of mobilized shareholders being women farmers. Through the establishment of 3,000 Self-Help Groups (SHGs) linked with mainstream banks, 67,000 farmers have gained access to microcredit, promoting financial inclusion.

Impact on environment and income: The sustainability initiatives have led to the doubling of income for at least 80% of the project’s target group. Additionally, approximately 50-60% of fallow land has been brought under agroforestry, contributing to the sequestration of 601,000 tCO2e (tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent) annually.

Fuelling growth through R&D: We are engaged in cutting-edge research and development to fuel our initiatives and introduce innovations in agroforestry. Our state-of-the-art clonal production centre is capable of producing 15 million high-yield saplings.
